The Just-Ice Story, very ably told by two Just-Ice volunteers at our June Member’s Morning, is rooted in providing employment, training and a safe, sympathetic space for victims of modern slavery.
The gift of an Ice -Cream Machine and (some years later) hearing a talk on Modern Slavery was the catalyst for opening an Ice Cream shop which would somehow help the fight against human trafficking.
To hear what Modern Slavery looked like in Greater Manchester - often hidden in plain sight in Car Washes, Vape Stores and Barbers and the numbers of young adults and children affected, gave all of us food for thought and generated a great deal of discussion.

We heard how beneficiaries are referred to Just-Ice by anti-trafficking charities and embark on a two year programme, receiving training to complete Health & Safety and Food Hygiene qualifications. Additionally, the beneficiaries learn vocational skills such as customer care, and gain experience of working in a café. Volunteers are also available, if needed, to help with English as a Foreign Language. As the beneficiaries gain confidence and skills, they become employable, independent and free. One Beneficiary for example is now on a Foundation Nursing Course.
You can support Just-Ice by visiting their café in Poynton which serves snacks and drinks alongside their wonderful ice-cream. Ingredients are sourced as locally as possible with a fair journey for all ingredients. Visit the Just-Ice web site for more information about their story and the various ways in which you can support them. Just-Ice Poynton
