There were 7 members at the meeting.
The meeting discussed venues and frequency, and decided to use the Scout HQ even thugh the group was small, with the option of using Sam's house or The Tytherington Club for some meetings. The Sub-group will aim to meet two Tuesdays a month,.
The main discussion was around the Alan Turing Institutes Glossary at https://www.turing.ac.uk/news/data-science-and-ai-glossary. There was discussion of various capabilities, and, looking at comparing AI with medical clinicians, the lack of cognition in the AI - it does not see the patient. Generally, the definitions we looked at in the glossary were ok, but very high-level.
Here is a link to the 2025 Cockcroft-Rutherford lecture by Simon Johnson, one of the 2024 Nobel Prize winners in economics, the title is ‘Technology and Global Inequality in the Age of AI’ and he discusses how previous innovation has impacted people and lays out some possible futures for us with the adoption of AI (Please note: the first 4 minutes or so of this recording are muted, and contain nothing of value - fast forward until you see people on the stage).
