It depends on the group (information is available from the Groups tab). The u3a uses a variety of local venues, including homes.
How does the u3a communicate with members?
Communication from the trustees is primarily via email, our website (and Facebook as an option). Members without access to email or the internet are supported via post or phone, but may not receive all communications. Group leaders communicate primarily via email (or phone if without email).
Do I need a membership card?
No. However if you choose to participate in ‘open groups’ of other u3as or any regional or national events and they require proof of your Macclesfield membership, then contact the Membership Secretary who can provide one to you.
Do I need a username and password?
No. All content of the Macclesfield u3a is open to the public and all members.
Is there a discount if my partner or spouse also belongs to Macclesfield u3a?
No.
Is there a discount if I choose not to receive a paper copy of the national u3a magazine?
No.
If I need to take a break, can receipt of emails be stopped?
Yes. Contact the Membership Secretary who can change your status from ‘Current’ to ‘Lapsed’.
If I move or stop using my membership, can I have a refund?
No.
Can I transfer my membership from another u3a mid-year?
No.
What if I have an issue with Macclesfield u3a?
The entire organisation is run by volunteers and we try our best to serve the community in an efficient and effective manner. However if you have an issue please contact any trustee.
For new Members
How do I arrange a free taster session?
Simply go to the ‘Groups’ tab on the Macclesfield u3a web page and locate the group(s) of interest. From there is a link to the relevant group leader to whom you can send an email. We recommend that you confirm the date and time of the next session and ensure that there is availability (some groups have a waiting list).
If you do not have access the the internet, then contact the Membership Secretary who will liaise with the group leader(s) on your behalf.
Do I have to live in Macclesfield to join?
No, but you do need to have a UK address.
Forreturning Members
I used to be a member, so how do I re-join?
If it’s been longer than 7 years, then apply as a new member.
If you have not been active for a year or more, you don’t have to wait until 1st April to resume your active membership. You may re-join from early February for the same subscription fee as if joining on 1st April.
If I have taken a break, can I rejoin mid-year for a reduced price?
If you took off a year or more, the introductory subscription does not apply if your personal details are still present in our Beacon system. However if it’s been more than 7 years since you last participated, then you are no longer in the system and hence are treated as “brand new” to the Macclesfield u3a (you will receive a new membership number when you rejoin).
If I have taken a break, may I have two free taster sessions before I re-join?
If you are not brand new to the Macclesfield u3a, you may have two free taster sessions if they are group(s) that you have not belonged to in the past or if the group leader or venue has since changed.
