Thanks to a new Group Leader stepping into the role, our group for creative writing has been saved from closure and will start again in September. The group is aiming to be as flexible as possible, providing a safe, and non-judgemental environment where members can share ideas, learn from each other and try out different formats and styles of writing.
To have some focus for the meetings a very broad topic will be chosen each week and group members are invited to interpret the topic widely by, for example, writing a poem, a short piece of prose, or just a few lines of introduction to a longer story or even an outline plan for a book or play. The sessions will also include discussions of genre and aspects of writing, analysis of published texts and extempore writing exercises.
A maximum word count of 800 words has been suggested, but it can of course be much less. Members who are prepared to share their work will be welcome to bring it along for discussion at the meetings - but that is not obligatory!
Whether you are an experienced writer or a complete novice, please come along and join us.
