Distance between 4.5 to 5 miles - easy/moderate terrain. Details of each walk are emailed out to members of the group the Sunday before the walk takes place. Members meet at the arranged point and set off at 10, no need to book. New members are always welcome to join us.

The walk: A 4.8 mile hill walk around Ladder Hill.
Please come prepared for an uphill climb to height where it can be quite exposed to weather. There are some 5 stiles, and we had to cross a puddle of water 1 inch deep on the path during the trial walk. The route is along established but sometimes rocky paths with other mixed surfaces from grass to sand with significant sections on tarred minor roads.
This walk occurs at the optimum time for seeing fungi. The lane across the top was reported as the best place in the world to see fungi by one website. I am quite sure this is an exaggeration, but it is certainly an exceptional place in September. We saw perhaps 20 varieties including the deadly Fly Agaric.
Directions:
The walk starts on the very large lay-by on the west side of the A5004 1km south of Whaley Bridge.
If you are coming via the B5470 from north Macclesfield, then turn right (south) at the traffic lights (away from Whaley Bridge centre) at the junction of the B5470 and the A5004. The lay-by is on the right soon after leaving the housing area.
If you are coming north from Buxton via Long Hill (A5004) then the lay-by is on the left before you reach Whaley Bridge.
If it helps, Shallcross Road is marked on maps on the opposite side of the lay-by (although this is a track, hardly a road).

A walk between showers from Timbersbrook to the canal and on to the Biddulph Way and nearly into Congleton. Back over the fields.
